Veggies to plant in July and August

I hope the heat hasn’t completely devastated everyones vegetable gardens.  If you live in the panhandle of florida there are only a few new crops to be planted in July.  These are eggplant, okra, peppers and watermelon.   But if you still have veggies that are producing keep up with the picking or they will go to seed.

There are a lot of veggies to be planted in August, so now is a good time to clean out the old and ready your soil for the new.  Here is a list of August veggies:

  • beans, bush and pole
  • lima beans
  • corn
  • cucumbers
  • southern peas
  • peppers
  • pumpkin
  • summer squash
  • winter squash
  • tomatoes
  • watermelon

If you want to start your plants from seeds, the peppers and tomatoes could be started now.

For a more in depth look at when to plant, the University of Florida IFAS has the list and even tells which varieties of each are recommended.  Click here and scroll to the bottom for the list.

Don’t let the heat get you down.
